Features:This book covers a wide field, and a great part of my story happened both far away and long ago. But there are three or four points Which seem to stand out from the narrative with particular interest at tilt present time. Our attitude to the rising power of Germany up to 1936, for instance, was ominously reminiscent of what happened in the Initial years when I was engaged in helping to lay the foundations of the Royal Flying Corps. I did my best after 1918, as my readers will see, to persuade the Government of the day to convert the mighty air weapon Which we had forged at so great a cost into an Imperial Force, linking tilt Empire together against aggression. The present war would never have occurred at all had the efforts of those who held this view succeeded. We seem never to learn from experience or act on its teaching. I can only hope that the events which I have recorded will serve as a warning to prevent a repetition of the tragic blunders, both during and after this war, Which have already cost the world so terrible a price.
